Picture it & write – A Personable Charm

Ermilia’s Picture it & write  (Sunday 09 December 2012)

Once again, here is my offering to ‘Picture it & write’ hosted by Ermilia (Ermisenda and Eliabeth) who invite others to join them by writing a fictional story or poem to accompany an image presented on their blog.

It had often felt that way. Life had a way of running through your fingers. Just when you thought you had it, it turned and caught you by surprise. Just like when he came into her life.

He’d been that suave; indeed, charming individual who had teased her with his good looks and personable voice that held a promise of tomorrow. Yes, a tomorrow!

She had known a few tomorrows, and a few personable charms. They had run through her fingers like water, holding nothing but false hopes and untidy memories.

Was he going to be the same? Was he a personable charm, or was he the real thing?

Huh, she had thought. What was ‘the real thing’ anyway? When you turned it upside down, it was likely going to run through your fingers.

  5. This is how it usually is.
Meet a guy, he’s wonderful. For a few days. Then the veneer rubs off and you’re stuck with a toad.
Damn!! To find just one that is actually worth holding on to ;-)
Liked this Carol – quite true :-)

  9. “…nothing but false hopes and untidy memories.”
like the “toad and the 4 cylinder”
    indeed.
    Nice line along with:
“When you turned it upside down, it was likely going to run through your fingers.”

But Ms. Page – i think that it is true with all things turned up-side-down.

A little less pessimism and a lot less expectation…
but stay off the roads with toads.

      Good ‘tie-in’, Randy… hahahah… Poor Ralphie…!
      (Wished I’d seen that first…)

“A little less pessimism and a lot less expectation…”
Now that’s great advice for the love-lorn… !
(Once again; wished I’d thought of that one first; especially lowering the expectation aspect …) ;)

“I considered writing for this prompt and nothing.”
Last week’s prompt was like that for me, Kim – zilch, nada…!
      I guess we can’t expect ‘inspiration’ every time…. ;)

    • The age old question whether we are a girl or a boy, me thinks….!
Love is not a ‘controllable’ emotion. You either get it, or you don’t…!
It’s just a shame when one does, and the other doesn’t…. Yuk..!

  15. what is the real thing, anyway? i ask myself that more than i should… nice one!

    • Thank You, Nanda…. :)
I believe ‘the real thing’ is subjective… For me a major part of ‘the real thing’ is knowing my mate ‘has my back’… he’ll be there, support me in whatever I wish to do…
In return I ‘have his back’ and support his dreams and actions…
We have co-operation and unity within our separate individualism. :)

  16. Finally! A dark story; love it! Very unexpected but I absolutely love where you took the prompt. Funny thing is, there’s another picture that, if I had to guess which picture this belonged to, I would have guessed.

    • Yes, I succumbed however, I wanted to do it ‘my way’… not with an image evoking mischief and dread…! Ha ha…
Thank You for your lovely words…. Now, no promises for future prompts (although writing in ‘the dark vein’ did hold a certain adrenaline factor)… ;)

I ventured over to your blog however, I couldn’t leave a message; my ‘wordpress signature’ wasn’t accepted…!
Here is the comment I wanted to leave…
I enjoyed that (although it was a little sad) it speaks of reality and a certainty for most.
Age, if not accepted graciously can be a torment and cause enormous grief. Naturally, no one wishes to lose their youthful appearance, and yet wisdom and wrinkles seem to have a certain kinship… ;)

  23. Water! Awesome! What a great surprise! So funny at the end… you read mine already so you know I did sand and the hourglass metaphor… I giggled when I read “turned it upside down” at the end. Wouldn’t it be just great if when we got to the end we could just flip it and start over? Delightful. Thanks, Carolyn.

    • A happy coincidence, Anne….! “turned it upside down.” :)
Yes, let’s start again please; that one didn’t turn out so good…!
Ha har… indeed; it would make making mistakes so much more palatable…! :)
      A wonderful idea I think would ‘catch on’… :)
