Picture it & write – Water

Ermilia’s Picture it & write  (Sunday 10 March 2013)

Once again, here is my offering to ‘Picture it & write’ hosted by Ermilia (Ermisenda and Eliabeth) who invite others to join them by writing a fictional story or poem to accompany an image presented on their blog.

It had the strangest feeling, and yet Rose wasn’t going to be deterred. She knew she had to fathom the expanse of it. She knew that if she didn’t, worlds could crumble.

Time had evolved quite slowly for Rose. She hadn’t meant this to happen; indeed she had tried, in vain, to keep up the normalcy she knew others about her conformed to. This had taken its toll upon her. She had risked many things including her life in its pursuit. If this was to be the last chance, then so be it.

She gingerly placed her hand upon it. Slowly she moved over it, aware of its fragility. It wasn’t until she saw the reflection the thought was aroused. Deep inside her consciousness was a vague memory; a memory of an element that had the capacity of reflection. Indeed, it came surging forward into her consciousness. This was the element ‘water’.

Somehow this soothed her. The memory of life upon a planet filtered into being. She recalled the vast array of wildlife, the beauty of the landscape, green and lush. Yes, the images grew more and more vivid; then the heartache as she recalled her departure. She must have been 2, perhaps 3; such a sad recollection. Vivid imaginings pervaded her mind, and yet here it was; how many years later?  It seemed as though a healing was taking place.  How long before it healed completely, she couldn’t tell. What she did understand was the vision was a calling; a calling to bring her home.
